Draw Near
Draw Near solo exhibition
Anna Leonowens Gallery, Halifax, Nova Scotia
November 29 – December 3, 2016
Jewellery transforms when it is untouched and out of its corporeal context. The dialogue of tactility between the wearer and maker is removed in the context of a gallery setting. It is this physical detachment that I investigate with Draw Near. When the physical intimacies of touch, weight and close inspection are removed from experience, jewellery becomes not only an autonomous object, but an object of desire.
The allure of jewellery objects is often inherent in their materiality, specifically their luminescence. My work, made of carved acrylic, captures these same qualities. Sensuous line, form, texture and colour are intended to attract the eye and beckon the hand to reach for the unattainable.
